Infants &
Children
Think of Chiropractic
care as you would good nutritional care-always essential for your
child's general good health.
"Chiropractic
care for my child? Why? His back doesn't hurt. " how often
do parents who appreciate the importance of check-ups for their
child's teeth, hearing, eyes, ears, nose draw a blank when it
comes to the spine. A spinal check-up could be one of the most
important of his or her life! Why? In addition to stress of child
birth, the constant jumping, falling, running, and bumping of
a normal childhood often cause spine and nerve stress, with potential
serious health consequences if left uncorrected over time.
A
newborns spine may be subject to abnormal stress as a result of
a difficult birth, a breach presentation, Ceasarean birth, obstetrical
error or abnormal inutero position during the last trimester.
Such spinal stress can lead to many varied health problems, as
demonstrated in a paper from the European medical journal Manuelle
Medizin, describing five-day-old infants with spinal nerve stress:
"The clinical picture ranges from central
motor impairment and development [sleeplessness, incoordination,
seizures] to a through… impairment of vegetative regulatory
systems [vomitting, digestive problems, elimination problems],
to lower resistance to infections, especially to ear-nose-and
throat infections. "
The articles author, a medical doctor recommends
chiropractic:
"[Spinal
adjustment] frequently resulted in the immediate cessation of
crying, muscular relaxation and sleepinesss. . . Chiropractic
can often bring about amazingly successful results ... the success
of [Chiropractic] adjustment overshadows every other type of treatment
[ sic]. "
A
1989 study compared the health of two hundred children under medical
care with two hundred under Chiropractic care. The Chiropractic
children had fewer ear infections, fewer allergies, fewer cases
of tonsillitis, and of course less medical treatment such as the
antibiotic therapy, medications and vaccination. The health of
the children under Chiropractic care was notably superior to that
of the children under medical care.
Today we find more parents bring their children
to doctors of Chiropractic for spinal check-ups. With a healthy
spinal column a child's body can better deal with the sore throat,
ear infections, fevers, colic, asthma, tonsillitis, allergies,
bed-wetting, viral and bacterial infections, pains, stomach-aches,
measles, mumps, and a hundred-and-one other problems that make
up young life.
Ear Infections:
Though not a treatment for ear infections, the
Chiropractic release of spinal nerve stress has been hailed in
clinical studies as essential for children suffering from ear
infections. In one study of 1,250 children, researchers started
that spinal nerve stress "Causes many clinical features ...
lower resistance to infection-especially ear, and throat infections.
" before resorting to antibiotic therapy and surgery parents
would do well to have their child's spine checked by a doctor
of Chiropractic.
Learning and
Behavioral Problems in Children:
Spinal care has been shown to help children with
emotional, learning, behavioral, and neurological problems. The
pilot studies have confirmed clinical findings that Chiropractic
Care has a positive effect on anxiety, inability to concentrate,
low mental stamina, hyperactivity, discipline problems, and even
a low grades and low IQ. After Chiropractic care grades improved,
attention span increased, discipline problems diminished, energy
and attitude improved and neurological and other physical problems
subsided.
The children were on heavy doses of various medications
after being diagnosed as hyperkinetic, non-verbal, passive, insomniac,
and having poor gross and fine motor control. One group of children
were treated medically with drug therapy while the second group
received Chiropractic care. Case studies included:
Other studies concur:
"Impressive evidence that the majority of the children in
this field study did, in fact, improved under specific Chiropractic
care. Chiropractic ... has the potential to become an important
non-drug intervention for children with hyperactivity. "Other
researchers have noted Chiropractic success with dyslexia, learning
disabilities, and attention deficit disorders. With the estimated
8 million school children in the United States alone that suffer
from a learning impairment, Chiropractic holds promise as a non-drug
way of caring for them. All children with learning disabilities
and similar problems should have a Chiropractic spinal check-up.
